Demonstration Garden Volunteers

A variety of talented all-volunteer gardeners keep an acre of gardens maintained in all seasons: Extension Master Gardeners, horticulture students and professionals, experienced home gardeners, and forest stewards.

If you’re considering volunteering at the Gardens, please review our Maintenance Guide for Volunteers and the Seattle Parks and Recreation Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Gardening schedule

Our small crew seeks regular, all-season help to maintain, evolve, and promote the one-of-a-kind Seattle Park garden feature.

  • Every Tuesday, 9:00 am – Noon
  • Every fourth Saturday, 9:00 am – Noon

From the main entrance, turn right immediately into the parking area, and meet at the maintenance yard gate to gather tools.

Carkeek Park Demonstration GardensThe Gardens are a unique city park feature

The Gardens are maintained by volunteers with support from the Carkeek Park Advisory Council to engage the local community.

Advisory Councils are governed by the Associated Recreation Council (ARC) in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), who work together to provide recreation and lifelong learning programs and services to the people of Seattle.

In an agreement with the WSU Extension Master Gardener Program and SPR, the Gardens are the largest of ten demonstration gardens in King County providing a research-based teaching environment.
